The latest study presented in the journal Science
Has sadly confirmed, that which I already know
I have been a gardener, since my early childhood
More than flowers and vegetables, in a garden grow
Each and every Spring, migrating birds arrive earlier
Each and every Summer, I find new invasive insects
Each and every Autumn, I see less and less butterflies
Each and every Winter, earlier and earlier, does it end
So many human beings, including our leaders, still deny it
But most backyard gardeners can relay the changes we see
Climate Change is real, and it is impacting life, all around us
What is happening now, on our planet, is changing, its destiny
I know that the robins now return earlier and earlier each year, to my garden
I know that I now see many insects up north, once only living, in the southland
I know that many types of butterflies, cannot find enough sustenance, to survive
And I know that the last frost of winter is earlier, which affects my gardening plan
As a gardener, I also know that the last decade has already been the hottest on record
The weather, birds, insects, and wildlife in search of food, tell me, the Earth is warming
This Science article says over 2,000 animal species are being affected by this change
And, those which cannot move or adapt, will vanish – great sadness to me, this brings
