Since I have always loved both dogs and cats
When either is abandoned, it breaks my heart
This is the story about a feline named Duchess
Who has waited so long, for a brand new start
She had been left behind in an apartment
When her uncaring humans, moved away
She has been waiting, so awfully long now
For someone to care for and love her, today
She was brought into the shelter, back in 2003
She has been waiting here, for eight long years
Waiting and hoping, for that special someone
Ignored by most, bringing shelter staff to tears
“People just stopped looking at Duchess,
Perhaps, because she has only one eye;
She is a beautiful being, deserving of love,
For these past 8 years, she has made us cry.
“But would you believe, a woman just walked in,
Who fell in love with this old girl, at first sight?
After eight long years, of waiting to be loved,
Deserving Duchess is in her new home tonight!”
There are so many deserving cats and dogs,
In so many shelters, waiting for someone;
Please consider adopting, just one of them,
So like Duchess, their waiting can be done.
Wherever you go,

They will be there,
