“Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued,
Is always just beyond your grasp, but which,
If you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.”
Nathaniel Hawthorne
The very last, wondrous, Monarch Butterfly
Departed our little flower garden, yesterday
Now, both my spouse and I, were quite sad
Watching it now fluttering skyward, and away
But before it departed from our backyard
My dogs stood fascinated, watching it fly
It also very briefly landed on my shoulder
As if it were attempting to say its good-bye
Then it took off, now heading southward
Where it will winter, down in old Mexico
I grabbed my binoculars and saw it joining
Several other Monarchs, already on the go
These tiny, intrepid, travelers will now journey
Thousands of miles, back to their winter home
Alas, our gorgeous backyard visitor won’t return
This way, next Spring, a new generation will roam
So Adios, to our marvelous, little, winged friend
We all wish you well, on your extremely long trip
And, we all look forward to greeting your offspring
When next Spring’s warm winds, into our yard whip

Just wondering if that is why it sat on your shoulder? Or...perhaps it feel you cared. They are so beautiful,no doubt of that, and you described it so well,I felt as if I was there too.
There are a lot of bright blue ones here, watching nature is so much better than TV.A great read Ed. Thanks for it.
Best wishes always to you and yours
