“The doors we open and close each day,

Decide the lives we lead, and who we meet.”

Flora Whittemore

I have always liked exploring

Visiting places, not too many see

There is so much life, all around us

Discovering it, brings great joy to me

Whether it’s wandering a lofty mountainside

Or a deep dark cave, far beneath the ground

This planet, contains far more, than ourselves

And I never know what life forms may be found

I was in the basement of an old hospital building

And a violent storm was raging far above my head

Two felines, that the hospital staff had been feeding

Had now vanished, and were now feared to be dead

With my flashlight in hand, I searched that entire basement

As I slowly moved along, I listened for meows and cat calls

Then, I spotted an old wooden hatch, leading to a crawl space

When I pried it open, I soon discovered they were alive, after all

And oddly enough, they seemed like they had known I was coming

They very patiently waited, for the life-sustaining meal I had brought

After that day of discovery, we decided that they deserved a better life

They now live in a wonderful home, and another lesson to me was taught

The doors that we open and close each and every day,

Decide not only our own lives, but often that of others.

Wonderful thoughts Ed. Yes, we are all connected and what we do or say means so much. Example: If you forget one day to feed your pet - you will hear about it! They depend on us so very much. But the love they give in return is priceless.

Blessings,

John Michael

There's a wealth of wisdom in the quote, reinforced beautifully in the story of your compassionate heart and the needy animals you serve.
Talk about going the extra mile, you're a great example!
