Be Very Careful Out There This Halloween,

Somewhere Tomorrow, Nasty Jack Will Be Seen

“Should that old Nasty Jack,

Come a knockin’ on your door,

It means that he has selected you,

To wander with him, forever more.”

My Grandfather

I believe I was about five-years old

When grandfather told me this story

And for several Halloweens thereafter

I worried that Nasty Jack would get me

Old Nasty Jack was a devilish old soul

Who loved to play tricks, on one and all

One night, he managed to trick the Devil

And Alas, this was Nasty Jack’s downfall

When he finally died, and he stood before the Pearly Gates

Old St. Peter informed him that he was just too nasty to enter

Suddenly, he found himself standing before the Gates of Hell

Now the Devil laughed, when he saw Nasty Jack standing there

Satan had remembered the very nasty trick, that Jack had played on him

So now he decided to pay him back, and not even allow him to enter Hell

“Old Nasty Jack, your fate now, will be to wander the Earth, forever more,

You can play your tricks for Eternity, between life and death, you shall dwell.”

So for hundreds of years now, old Nasty Jack has been wandering this planet

And each and every Halloween, the Devil forces him to find another nasty soul

If you should spot a Jack O’Lantern wandering your street, or ringing your bell

You better hide, and hope you’re not the nasty one, old Nasty Jack selects to go

This year, I’m feeling a little better as Halloween approaches,

A raven told me Jack will be wandering somewhere by the sea;

I sure hope our devilish old brother doesn’t run into him there,

PS: ‘Dear Nasty Jack, our brother lives in a trailer park in Jersey.’

(Our sister in California insisted I include that;

She doesn’t want a visit, from Nasty Old Jack.)

After a half bottle of nasty Jack I'm pretty bulletproof. I just hope I don't run out of ice cubes. Patrick

Nasty Jack meets up with the Jersey Devil.... Bet there'll be some howling going on this Halloween. This is a good story, Ed and from everything I've ever heard about Jersey from the New Yorkers who winter here in Florida, he won't be able to tell the difference whether he's in Hell or Jersey. "Six of one and half a dozen of the other..." Dick
