Every year on our Veterans Day
I always wonder, what went wrong
In every war our nation has ever fought
We’ve sent them off with cheers and song
And then, no matter what the battle effort
When our brave soldiers come limping home
We so routinely neglect so many of their needs
And I routinely write yet another mournful poem
Our elected officials have never spent enough money on their needs
Yearly cuts in our veteran programs, have become abysmally routine
Instead, our ‘leaders’ spend our tax money on huge corporate bailouts
Which to me, seems extremely callous and frankly, truly quite obscene
If I had anything at all to say about our government veteran policy
I’d only allow those who have actually worn an active duty uniform
Legislate the types of benefits, our valiant veterans deserve to receive
Then better health, housing, and disability benefits, would be the norm
Please Salute an Ailing or an Aging Veteran,
Today, on This, Their Veterans Day Holiday;
Whether your neighbor or in a veterans hospital,
These Americans, Truly Are, Our Nation’s Brave.

I wish everyone that has served in the military in one way or another a Happy Veteran's Day, and know that there are people that do appreciat everything that they do to make us safe here in the USA.

Our Veterans are routinely betrayed here "at home."
Confining policy decisions to those who have actually served is
the best way to ensure Veterans' needs are honorably met.
