The horror stories, just get worse
The atrocities, we humans perform
I grieve every day now, for humanity
Instead of kindness, cruelty is our norm
A young lady, out jogging in the big city
Her very faithful canine, right by her side
As they pass by an old dumpster in an alley
Her dog stops, stares at it, and starts to whine
The young woman lifts the heavy dumpster lid
And discovers several tiny, dead puppies inside
Miraculously, one of them, is still clinging to life
She quickly lifts him out of there, and starts to cry
His eyes are crusted shut, and his breathing is labored
He’s emaciated and bald, inflicted with terrible mange
She quickly takes him to an animal hospital in the city
Where this innocent creature struggles to survive today
Apparently, someone owning a female dog, that had pups
Couldn’t be bothered to care for her tiny newborn offspring
So, they nonchalantly tossed all of them, into this dumpster
Every day now when I wake, I know new horrors it will bring
This innocent, discarded, puppy, owes its life, to another dog
If another canine hadn’t felt compassion, it too, would be dead
Canines continue to teach we human beings, how to live our lives
And horridly, my very own species, continues to fill me with dread
