Dying pine trees, now a deathly red or brown
When year round, they should be, evergreen
As one who loves and roams our pine forests
My heart sickens, at the devastation that I see
From the enormous American Southwest
To the far reaches of Alaska’s mountains
A new study says pine forests are dying
Our great green pines, coming to an end
I once thought logging corporations would kill them
But today, it’s deadly insects, wildfires, and droughts
More and more magnificent, life-enhancing, evergreens
Are now perishing, I can see it with my own eyes, all about
Because of climate change, pine-killing beetles survive the winters
Devastating wildfires destroy thousands and thousands of pine trees
And Earth’s ever increasing droughts, from lack of life-sustaining rain
Now rob evergreens of life, in numerous areas, as far as the eye can see
The wondrous pine trees of America’s Rocky Mountains, are now in decline
My beloved northwood pine forests, are now sadly being consumed by insects
Severe droughts in states like Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, are killing pines
Yet, most are still in denial, that our once great green forests, are coming to an end
And so very sadly, this pine forest devastation is already occurring worldwide;
We will be leaving our children a pine-less world, which should make us all cry.
And I definitely won’t be buying a Fresh Pine Christmas Tree this year;
Our old artificial tree will have to do, to provide us some Holiday Cheer.
