There was a hint of snow in the air
It was now dawn, on Christmas Eve
When I got an urgent telephone call
“Can you help us catch this dog, Please!”
“She has been out here for about a week now,
In a parking lot where the Chicago Bulls play;
She is starving, freezing, and so very all alone,
We really want to help her before Christmas Day.”
So I loaded up my gear and my trusty dog trap
And I informed my spouse I was going shopping
“I really don’t think I need another pet for Christmas!”
I couldn’t help but laugh, as it was now Christmas Eve
When I arrived at the parking lot, she was lying there
All curled up, attempting to ward off the chill in the air
There were three of us now, and we enlisted two passersby
“We have to block off the lot exits, so she can’t escape here.”
Once that was accomplished, we began to approach her slowly
She immediately bolted up in fear, and tried to race away from us
But she could not get out, and soon, we had leads around her neck
One of my fellow rescuers named her ‘Noelle’ in honor of Christmas
As soon as we got her into the car, she immediately stopped shivering
We began petting her and talking to her, and she quickly began to relax
Soon, she was eating food out of our hands, and kissing all of our faces
And after I shared one of my Christmas cookies with her, she took a nap
Our veterinarian gave her a clean bill of health, and she wagged her tail
She was now happy, relaxed, warm, and now finally out of her frigid hell
A compassionate woman quickly offered to foster her over the Holidays
It would now be a most joyous Christmas for us, and for rescued Noelle
