Very Sadly, This Is The Reason Many Of Us Now Do What We Do

He had staggered into an Ace store, seeking shelter
Emaciated, starving, so very cold, and so very alone
Of course, like most outcast dogs in America today
He was not welcomed - soon irate calls on the phone
Animal Control rushed out to capture this intruder
And they got there before any animal rescuer could
All poor ‘Ace’ had wanted, was a place to get warm
And now, his extremely dire situation, was not good
The canine loving members of Detroit’s Dog Rescue
Tried to save him, and thousands of us signed petitions
But so very sadly these days, the bureaucrats don’t care
And Ace was quickly dispatched to a heartless execution
Many of us were both saddened and disgusted by this outcome
A very compassionate woman in California, was moved to tears
In Memory of Ace, she has recently made a $1.5 million donation
The Outcasts of Detroit, will finally get a ‘No-Kill’ Shelter this year
And those of us who try to help America’s abandoned dogs will remember Ace
What happened to him is the reason we don’t take our rescued dogs to a pound
Instead, we take them to pet rescue groups, or to the veterinarians we work with
Detroit has 50,000 homeless dogs, and all across America, they are in every town
Many Of Us Have Raced Out At 2 AM, To Get There, Before Animal Control
Put Yourself In A Homeless Animal’s Place – Freezing, Starving, And All Alone
Our Dear Old Trucker, Little Jack, And Sweet Carrie, Would Be Dead Today
If I Had Not Gotten There First, Before Animal Control, Hauled Them Away
Please Help A Pet Rescue Group, In Your Own Area, If You Can
There Are Sadly Far Too Many Just Like Ace, All Across This Land
And Please Consider Fostering Or Adopting One Of These Street Waifs
All Across America, Innocent Left Behinds, Face The Same Fate, As Ace

But, the highlight here is surely this WONDERFUL woman who, having the means to do do, has made sure his death was not in vain.
Just how do you say 'Thank you' to someone like her and make it enough?
All we animal lovers can do is carry on doing what we do and pray that more like her will follow her lead.
