I Can’t Afford That Arizona Cave House,
But I Can Visit A Wondrous Old Friend

I awoke before the dawn
With a longing in my soul
I knew the cave was calling
I told my spouse I had to go
It seems that every winter now
When the ice forms in this cave
I hear its voice inside my head
‘You should journey here, today’
I first visited this ancient lake cave years ago
Soon mesmerized by the sparkling ice inside
It was so wondrously captivating, and serene
What a complete contrast to the world outside
The first time that I visited, I stayed here for hours
Its sheer beauty and utter silence, soothed my soul
And each and every winter now, I hear it calling me
And every year when it does, I know that I must go
Nature, in all of its forms, is a powerful force in my life
Without it, for me, this world would be a forsaken place
I’ve learned to heed these nature calls, whenever they come
They renew my waning spirit, and put a smile back on my face
I’ve quickly packed a few necessities for my journey to this ice cave
Some of my canines, somehow already seem to know, our destination
And now, I anxiously wonder, what message will be waiting there for us
But I also know that this trip to visit an old friend will fill my soul with elation
I awoke before the dawn,
