We Once Treasured Pets, Horses, and Wild Animals;
Today, Our Greed-Filled Nation, Disrespects Them All

In the Days of America’s Wild West
Thousands of Wild Mustangs, ran free
Today, they are rounded up, for slaughter
Modern day humans are heartless and greedy
Back in 1971, most Americans, regretted their decline
So, our leaders decided that it was time, to protect them
But today, our ‘leaders’ now bow to special interest groups
And so today, these American treasures, are facing their end
Like the rest of the wondrous wildlife still remaining in our nation
These wild horses cannot vote or contribute any money to politicians
Who now cater to the business interests, that control ‘our public lands’
Those who believe that their right to increased profits should never end
So today, the government bureau assigned to protect these mustangs
So very cruelly, drives them with helicopters, to massive holding pens
Where they are forcibly shoved into trucks, and carted hundreds of miles
Where today, in slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico, their lives now end
And today, their corpses are carved up, and shipped to France, and other countries
So restaurant diners can now delight, in eating our wild horses, that once roamed free
Today, many Congressmen and Presidential candidates want to pillage our public land
They care little that our forefathers sought to preserve it for its wild beauty, once grand
And Soon, Like the Once Protected Wild Wolf, The Wild Mustang, Will Be No More
Our Elected Officials Today Are Killing Off Our American Treasures Like Never Before
A formal review of these current government-sanctioned wild horse round-ups recently made public revealed that America’s wild mustangs are now being traumatized by helicopters pursuing them too closely; that many of them are breaking legs or suffering other severe injuries while running for their lives; and that once penned, many of them are being whipped in the face, kicked in the head, dragged by ropes around the neck, and repeatedly shocked with electrical prods. And after being crammed wall to wall into stifling double-decked trucks for their horrendous slaughterhouse journey of hundreds of miles to Canada or Mexico, none of them are given any food or water.
But the government agency that is supposed to protect them, and that now eagerly assists our politicians and special interest groups in annihilating them, has concluded:
‘None of this mistreatment rises to the level of being inhumane’
I sadly wonder what the Definition of ‘Inhumane’ is today,
And, I sadly wonder what future generations will have to say,
About our hideous desire to sweep every other life form away.
While our wild mustangs are being butchered for foreign diners,
Our once protected wolves are being gunned down from the sky,
Our once protected seals are being shot for eating dwindling fish,
And so very sadly, very few American citizens, even question why.
And our neighbors to the north up in Canada also don’t seem to care,
