I had been asked to find a new dog
For an elderly woman who lost her pet
But a homeless dog somehow found me
This is one encounter that I will never forget
I was on my way to a local animal shelter
That I knew was overflowing with canines
And there he was, standing out in the rain
I stared out at him, his eyes gazed into mine
He was a ragged clump of dirty matted fur
It looked as if he’d been wandering awhile
I got out of my truck, he walked toward me
It was as if he knew, that I’d be stopping by
He very quickly climbed right into my old truck
And now, he happily sat in the passenger seat
He also seemed to know where we were going
He sagely acted like he knew that we would meet
He spent the next several days at the animal hospital
Being cared for and groomed, and pampered quite well
He didn’t seem surprised at all, when I came to fetch him
It was as if he knew I’d be the one delivering him from hell
On the long ride to his new home, he smiled the entire journey
When he met his new owner, he gave her a joyous loving kiss
Then, he soon jumped up into the chair, her old dog had loved
And now fell fast asleep, with a smile on his face filled with bliss
“I love him already; he reminds me so much of my precious George!”
“I think this was meant to be; I’ve never met a dog like Sage before!”
