Our penchant for killing Earth’s wildlife is increasing
Surely, it is our right to stop them from eating ‘our fish’
Besides killing wolves, we now delight in killing sea lions
Annihilating all competing life forms is now our human wish
In case you haven’t heard, we are very rapidly depleting Earth’s fish
And fish that we love to eat, like salmon, are now woefully in decline
Instead of searching for ways to prevent fish, from vanishing forever
We so smugly believe that killing off all other fish eaters will be just fine
These greedy sea lions have refused to stop consuming our dwindling fish
They very stubbornly keep showing up at dams, during yearly salmon runs
Despite all of our efforts to traumatize them, with hazing and rubber bullets
If they can’t be deterred from eating fish, we will ensure their lives are done
A federal judge has just turned down a request to stop killing the sea lions
Even though, like the wolf, they are supposed to be protected, by our laws
This Department of Fish and Wildlife, is supposed to safeguard wild animals
But evidently, this judge’s new ruling now has these ‘wildlife stewards’ in awe
To date, nearly fifty salmon-eating sea lions have been captured and euthanized
Despite numerous lawsuits being filed on their behalf, by wildlife advocate groups
We now ignore The Marine Mammal Protection Act, and other laws to protect them
And, of course, we will happily continue to over-fish salmon, but this is hardly news
What I do find newsworthy however, is this judge’s ruling, on ways we can kill them
Many sea lion haters today, simply want to stand on our dams, and kill them with guns
The judge decreed that this would be far too ‘inhumane’ and ‘would not look very good’
But we can trap them, and pump them with lethal injections, until their last breath is done
Increasingly today, whenever it suits our extremely self-centered needs,
We human beings, simply choose to ignore all science, biology, and facts;
Like the fact that salmon has been a natural part of a sea lion’s diet for eons,
It’s far easier to just very merrily increase our ever expanding wildlife attacks.
And now, I anticipate numerous eagle and osprey murders soon,
These gluttonous birds have refused to stop eating ‘our fish,’ too.

we should be seen as 'bad'
