“Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them,

Filling an emptiness that we don't even know we have.”

Thom Jones

He had found me in that truck yard

That very bitterly cold, sub-zero day

He soon filled an emptiness in my heart

And now, dear old Trucker’s gone away

He was very old and battered, when he found me

He must have known, I needed a canine to care for

He became my best friend and constant companion

And now, he’s not by my side, to care for me anymore

He so diligently followed after me, for two wondrous years

He would always see the joy in my eyes, as I peered into his

I often think the orphans I take in, are here to take care of me

When they leave, my heart and soul ache, for the friend I miss

For the last few months he was having trouble climbing the stairs

So he very patiently waited for me to carry him out into the yard

I doubt he considered himself as handicapped, or weak, or feeble

Dogs are more capable than humans, in accepting, that life is hard

He never complained, or lamented, or even regretted, his waning days

He was perfectly content, to watch over me, as he sprawled by my side

He died in my arms so very peacefully, knowing it was now time to leave

I miss him immensely, the keyboard now smeared, with tears from my eyes

He had found me in that truck yard,

That very bitterly cold, sub-zero day;

He soon filled an emptiness in my heart,

And now, dear old Trucker has gone away.

My other canines also now miss him very much,

Especially Highway, who had become his friend;

There is now a great sadness on their faces as well,

Our entire household will miss Trucker, without end.

His earthly ashes now have a place of honor on our mantle piece,

Along with the ashes of so many other orphans that I have known;

I’ve had the great privilege of being cared for by quite a few of them,

And like our dear old Trucker, their spirits live on, in my heart and soul.

They do come to care for you as you do them
See you understand the beauty of it all and
when it is your time, my time, and others time
many will be waiting to greet us of the four-legged
feathered and swishing tail kind :)

We are all touched deeply by those that give us that
unconditional love that they so give us freely...
they are always with us Mr. Ed, you can't bank on this

Sadness for your aching heart!
No replacement cause each one is
so unique *Mr Ed* but knowing that
Trucker only had to truck over that
Rainbow Bridge into doggie heaven I
pray is some solace..

I still cry for the loss of my dogs Mr. Ed. But you know what..? Those tears are also of joy for having been blessed by the love of those cats and dogs who have looked after me so well and who I know are waiting patiently on the other side. Blessings on you.

deeply feeling for you here, Dad. It's now been 7 weeks since we lost our darling 15+yr old Willow and although I'm pulling through, I still have my moments. We have scattered her ashes in many meaningful places on the heath and beach and finally interred her "container" containing her lead, collar and various mementos - along with a lock of my hair - beneath a significant tree on a high knoll on the heath which I can see from my study window. Like Trucker and all your other keepers, she will always be a part of me. xx
