I’ve been writing about the many horrors
Of America’s Puppy Mills for many years
But many people continue to purchase dogs
Little Billy’s story should bring them to tears
And his story is why we should adopt, not shop
Please share it with everyone, this Holiday Season
Tell them not to purchase a puppy, from a pet store
Tell them that dogs who suffer like Billy, are the reason
“It never gets any easier -- walking into a Puppy Mill filled with sick, starving dogs mired in their own filth. Never. It breaks my heart every time.
A few months ago, I rescued a little Chihuahua from a Puppy Mill in North Carolina. I'll never forget the first time that I saw him. His name is Billy.
He had been locked in his cage for so long that the door had rusted shut. It took me a full 20 minutes, but I finally managed to pry it open. What I found inside was heart-shattering.
Billy weighed almost nothing. Even if he had been given food, he was in too much pain to eat -- his jaw and teeth had rotted away. He had a terrible skin condition, and he was having trouble breathing, but when I picked him up, he began wagging his little tail and he soon covered me in kisses.
Used as a breeding dog and then tossed aside when he was past his prime, Billy had spent his entire life -- day after day, year after year -- just wasting away behind those bars. If we hadn’t gotten to him when we did, that cage would have been his tomb.
And yet, after all that, there he was nuzzling, cuddling, and affectionate. He knew I was one of the good guys. I got to be Billy’s hero.
I’ve rescued so many animals from unspeakable conditions with The Humane Society of the United States. Whenever it gets to be too much to bear, I remember the first time I laid eyes on little Billy, and how nothing could break his spirit.
Ed, there are so many dogs... cats… horses... farm animals... and wildlife who need a hero of their own. Thank you for everything you do for animals. Together, we have to continue to build a more humane society for us all.”

and breaks my heart... I am not a spiteful or mean
soul or one who seeks harm to others, but in my
opinion the soul that locked this poor creature up
needs to be whipped, shot, caged up and starved!
