-Some Rescue Attempts Sadly Take Forever-

“Let me tell you this:

If you meet a loner,

It’s not because they enjoy solitude.

It’s because they have tried

To blend into the world before,

And people continue to disappoint them.”

Jodi Picoult

Music: Needing A Friend

A police officer told me about her

She’s been living on the tracks a year

I watch her, trudging through the snow

For all of these lonely souls, I shed a tear

Some say that her owner had a car accident

Transported to a hospital, she was left behind

Other people say, she was abandoned out here

By her own family, in our world so cruel and unkind

I now come out here, to visit with her, every morning

She keeps her distance, as I gaze into her sad eyes

I have already attempted to trap her, several times

She is still too wary to enter it, but I continue to try

She already recognizes my truck, whenever I now arrive

She watches me, as I place some food in a plastic tray

She starts running towards me, then very abruptly stops

I sadly realize, that any renewed trust, won’t occur today

So I get back into my truck, and I drive away from the food

She then rushes to it, grabs a morsel, and eats it in the field

As I now watch her racing back and forth, so sad and lonely

Her plight, like the plight of every street orphan, sickens me

“Let me tell you this:

If you meet a loner,

It’s not because they enjoy solitude.

It’s because they have tried

To blend into the world before,

And people continue to disappoint them.”

A poignant reminder that like animals of this plight, we too, this so-called advanced species, grows weary of the hand that feeds us as well. Today, it's far more sophisticated to wait until the provider leaves behind its bait, than to rush in and take it directly. For far too often, the hand that feeds US, is the hand that might need to be bitten, lest we take the time to challenge and wait out whatever motive or agenda is being exercised. In your case, it is like the good Samaritan who gives the street-corner homeless a wrapped sandwich. Some testing might be in order before trusting, given the corrupted sense of humanity that is out there. Good luck with this rescue.

I don't know how anyone can ignore this kind of thing - but sadly they can. They say ignorance is bliss and, I guess for those wearing the blinkers, it is.
The few of us that refuse to wear the blinkers must tidy up and carry on.
