An Extremely Sad Follow-up To My Poem ‘One Thousand Wolves’

“Mii’angin (Wolf) is Sacred to our Tribe, and to our Members,

And encounters with The Gray Wolves are not inherently negative.

We implore the state to seek methods to deal with habituated Wolves,

That will not infringe on our right to sacred encounters with Mii’angin.”

Since Mii’angin (Wolf) is no longer protected

Michigan wants to allow Wolf Trophy Hunting

There are less than 700 Wolves left in Michigan

This barbaric proposal will bring them to an end

In the wild, in the state of Michigan, is one of the places

That I too, have been very fortunate to encounter Mii’angin

Wildlife Biologists, Conservationists, and Native Americans

All oppose Wolf Trophy Hunting, which will bring them to an end

There has never been one Wolf attack against Man, in Michigan

The vast majority of remaining Wolves here are in nature preserves

There are also very few livestock losses due to Wolves, in this state

Yet trophy hunters can’t wait to mount them on their walls everywhere

And one of the many false allegations against the remaining Wolves here

Is that they must now all be destroyed, since they are killing all of the Deer

Yet, the number of Deer in the vast state of Michigan, are actually on the rise

In our greed-filled penchant for killing today, we resort to deception and fear

Since Mii’angin (Wolf) is no longer protected,

Michigan wants to allow Wolf Trophy Hunting;

There are less than 700 Wolves left in Michigan,

This barbaric proposal, will bring them to an end.

Really sad state of affairs. I always thought that Isle Royale had a sizable population of moose and wolves, and keeping each other healthy and in check. But I just saw a History Channel show on the possibility of Minoans once mining copper on the island. When the geologist asked about the wolf population, the local park ranger told him that it had declined and there were only 9 individuals left. Apparently, three of the wolves had fallen into a deep mine and died recently.

When the wolves are all gone, the trophy hunter will resort to dog hunting, then the cats will be on the list...where will it end or will we be seeing the hunters one day hunting other men, and mounting them on their walls...? e

the only thing you, Ed, and i and anyone else who truly cares is that
we happen to share the same planet with these soulless people at the same time..and that's all we have in common

Who are these Godless lawmakers that encourage such, oh I forgot, they might be going to Church on Sundays, who are these killers that think God made the world and the wolf, just for them to poison and to kill? Bless ya!

you are unfortunately correct in all you say, the farther humans have come for subsitance hunting, the more come for just some thrill of it...that is barbaric..we are the only creature that does that
