Besides rescuing homeless animals from the mean streets
I always enjoy picking them up, from the animal hospital
In a matter of a few short days, they have been transformed
From their agony and despair, to the joy and wonder of it all
They always greet me at the animal hospital with such joyous tail wags
And, most of them soon shower me with endless kisses during the ride
They cannot believe, how their lives have changed, in a few short days
They always know that a grand adventure awaits, as they sit by my side
They are always so extremely attentive, as we now journey along together
Delighting in every sight, sound, and smell on their way to their new home
They always seem to instinctively know, that their days of misery, are over
That they will no longer be hungry, homeless, or ever again, so horridly alone
Sometimes, I bring them to my own home, where they become part of our pack
Other times, I transport them to a wonderful foster home, filled with other waifs
And sometimes I deliver them to a very kind-hearted person, who is adopting them
When we arrive, the new bond between orphan and adopter, is always so very great
