“For man, as for flower and beast and bird,
The supreme triumph is to be most vividly,
Most perfectly - alive."
David Herbert Lawrence
Over ten inches of snow had fallen
As I shoveled, I soon heard him call
So I stopped, and we now conversed
He made me realize the wonder of it all
He sat there chatting, with his plume of green
This big snowstorm had not dampened his spirit
This tiny, cheerful visitor, was just what I needed
To remind me that ‘life’ no matter what, never quits
As he very merrily chatted on, I marveled at my backyard visitor
He is a green monk parrot, a wondrous bird from South America
Numerous stories say that his kind had escaped their confinement
At an airport cargo hold, right here in the Midwest, many years ago
And although these birds had come from a warm tropical climate down south
They persevered, and were able to acclimate themselves to the snow and cold
Today, there are numerous colonies of green monk parrots, all around my area
Every time that I encounter one of them, they always brighten my heart and soul
Over ten inches of snow had fallen,
As I shoveled, I soon heard him call;
So I stopped, and we now conversed,
He made me realize the wonder of it all.

what you do, Ed, but i bet there are many who
have that don't have the love and appreciation
you do of what's before them;
i've said it before, you are soul in touch.
this is wonderful to read.

encounter..especially conversing!
Lady Vivian
there was a tree in the state of Connecticut
with a colony of over 100 birds of the same kind
several years later from the first moment I read about them
the tree mysterious burned.
Peace be with you

is your piece. The snow and the season ending it's beauty is
marveled.
