“It is spring again,
And the earth is like a child
That knows poems by heart.”
Rainer Maria Rilke
I love to rise at daybreak
On a gorgeous spring day
What an invigorating time
For both work and for play
The robin is already singing
A chattering squirrel stops by
The sparrows are tending nests
Soon, their tiny newborns will fly
I start the day by painting my fences
Then, I do a little spading in my yard
My dogs quickly convince me to play
And, they never have to try very hard
Little Jack, he needs no trampoline or springboard
He jumps high in the air, to catch his favorite Frisbee
Junior, Tater, and Carrie love to wrestle in the green grass
Blanca, Scruffy, Shadow, and Turbo love the spring breeze
Soon, my spouse arrives with some refreshments for us all
Then, she and I discuss what types of flowers we will plant
Before I know it, another lovely spring day has come to an end
But the working and the playing, in the spring, are oh so grand
I love to rise at daybreak,
On a gorgeous spring day;
What an invigorating time,
For both work and for play.
