Spring was now in the air

My dogs woke me at dawn

They could hear him singing

Out there on our greening lawn

“See! See! See! See!” he sang

And soon, we all rushed outside

He had now perched high in a tree

Singing his Ode To Dawn with pride

Our wondrous visitor was a tiny Gnat Catcher

He had very recently arrived up here from Mexico

He would now be spending the spring and summer here

Nesting and mating, until the cold winds of autumn will blow

And soon, his vibrant earning morning song attracted another

A lovely female Gnat Catcher, soon perched high in another tree

My dogs and I were now being serenaded by two winged wonders

Reminding us to gaze skyward at the sun, while they sang so merrily

Spring was now in the air,

My dogs woke me at dawn;

They could hear him singing,

Out there on our greening lawn.
