Millions of homeless cats born

In America, each and every year

Millions of them, are put to death

And millions of them, now live in fear

Millions of them, reside in our back alleys

And huddle starving, behind grocery stores

Millions of them, are abandoned by humans

Who very callously don’t love them anymore

And millions of cat owners in America today

Don’t spay and neuter, and let them roam free

So, millions and millions of their tiny offspring

Will never find homes, and they die so horribly

Far too many of the cat owners in America today

Still believe it is their own cat’s right, to re-produce

Yet, they take no responsibility for their many offspring

Who are starving, and disease-riddled, and on the loose

These abandoned, abused, and forlorn orphans

For most of my life, have truly touched my heart

I found all of the many felines residing in my home

On the mean city streets, hoping for a brand new start

Today, America’s many animal shelters are now overflowing

With affectionate cats and adorable kittens, needing a friend

Please find it in your heart to help us, this ‘Adopt a Cat Month’

Please help to bring their very sad modern day plight, to an end

Most Animal Shelters in America,

Are Today, So Woefully Underfunded,

They Don’t Have Room For All of Them;

Eleven Out of Twelve Very Deserving Felines,

Today, Meet a Very Horrible, Much Too Soon, End.

Only One in Twelve

Felines Born In America

Ever Find A Loving Home;

And I Would Truly Love

To Read Someone Else’s

June Feline Adoption Poem.

But If You Cannot Adopt,

Pease Donate This Month,

To An Animal Shelter,

Or To A Cat Sanctuary,

Near Your Home.
