I Originally Wrote An Ode To Zoey,

After Meeting Her After Katrina in 2006;

Just The Other Day I Received The News,

That This Very Special Canine Is Now Sick

"If I have any beliefs about immortality,

It is that certain dogs I have known will go to heaven,

And very, very few persons will."

James Thurber

Music:  Angels Among Us

She is quite an amazing dog catcher

I first met her down in New Orleans

She worked with her human partner

Helping canines on those streets so mean

This dog catcher’s name is Zoey

She herself, had been a forlorn stray

She had been abandoned by her owner

Until her human friend Al found her one day

She grew up helping Al run his animal shelter

She has been his sidekick now for many a year

And watching her round up frightened canines

Is something marvelous that I will always cheer

As she and Al roamed the mean streets of New Orleans

She would soon help corner and hold many a terrified stray

And without ever speaking a single word to these left behinds

Zoey could somehow convince them, that help was on the way

I have recently very sadly learned that Zoey is now in very ill health

A website has been set up to honor Zoey and Al, and to collect donations

Please visit the link below to learn more about Zoey and Al, her human caretaker

This special canine and dedicated man have helped so many needy pets in our nation

If I have any beliefs about immortality

I am certain that this dog will surely get

An honored spot inside those Pearly Gates

Since she has far more compassion

Than many human beings I have met.

Such a sad story...but Zoey is guaranteed a place in heaven...and I agree with you...there'll be more dogs than humans there...
