“Softly the evening came;
The sun from the western horizon,
Like a magician,
Extended his golden wand o'er the landscape;
Trinkling vapors arose;
And sky, and water, and forest,
Seemed all on fire at the touch,
And melted and mingled, together.”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
End of the day, on the lake
Time to ponder, the sunset
And tonight, I am overjoyed
The best sunset of the trip yet
I think of Longfellow’s words above
As I watch God’s truly magical show
The hush of this landscape, wondrous
The great northwood, is now, all aglow
What a glorious way, to end this day
Soon, I will light a fire, for the night
But, for several glorious minutes, here
I perch on this lakeshore in sheer delight
My dogs also seem to sense the magic
They stand very quietly at my side
We thankfully have front row seats
What a truly glorious dusk, to be alive
Suddenly, the sheer silence is broken
By a far off loon, now calling to its mate
She calls back, and he wings to her side
Together, for tomorrow’s dawn, they wait
As the sun soon slowly sinks, out of sight
I thank God, for one more day, in the wood
And as I gather firewood, to light my campfire
I think, this day at the lake, was extremely good
