I used to love the Fourth of July

And city-sponsored fireworks displays

But these weren’t good enough for people

Most people have to shoot off their own today

And these people are not satisfied with an hour’s worth

These horrific days, they start firing them off, days ahead

The week before, and after, this Independence Day Holiday

Fill the vast majority of America’s now terrified pets with dread

I have already been forced to give many of my own canines’ sedatives

They are nervous wrecks, with these non-stop, terrifying, bangs and booms

Many of my own dogs no longer want to frolic and to play out in our backyard

Instead, they shake and tremble and hide in our closets and dark basement rooms

This is now the very worst time of the year for the terrified, run-away, traumatized animals

The lucky ones will get taken to an animal shelter; the unlucky ones get run down, or are lost

And all these must have, must shoot them off for a week or two fireworks, are made in China

These selfish, animal terrifying, week or two long bangs and booms, have a billion dollar cost

I’m already getting many calls from people asking me to help them look for their own lost pets

I’m already spending night and day attempting to comfort my own severely traumatized canines

And it is not only our pets that are now traumatized

I just saw a terrified mother duck and her tiny babies

Frantically racing across an extremely busy highway

As deafening firework blasts echoed through the trees

There was a time I loved the Fourth of July

And the city-sponsored fireworks displays

But now, as an animal lover and pet rescuer

I have now sadly come to dread this Holiday
