-These Get-A-Ways Always Go Too Fast-

“Keep close to Nature’s Heart,

And break clear away once in a while,

And climb a mountain,

Or spend a week in the woods,

To wash your spirit clean.”

John Muir

Music:  Beautiful Times

I first read Muir’s words

When I was a young child

And I still believe in his advice

I still break away once in a while

Nature’s Heart, is the place that I still love

It allows me, to escape our very hectic world

A week in the woods, is always so refreshing

Just relaxing, letting Nature’s wonders unfurl

These days, I take along a few of my loyal canines

They, too, seem to revel in our Nature Get-A-Ways

We either camp in my tent, or we stay in a log cabin

Delighting in the sights and sounds around us every day

No traffic noises, no computers, no telephones or television

Instead of an alarm clock, the forest birds awaken us at dawn

We hike, and we swim, and we fish, and we rejuvenate our souls

Here in Nature’s Heart, where all of our cares are very quickly gone

I hope to spend the rest of my days, heeding the sage words of John Muir

Breaking clear away from the hectic modern world that is often so depressing

And I already look forward to my next break-away, and my next spirit cleansing

When my dogs and I can re-connect with Nature’s Heart - to me, a real blessing

Whoa! I'll take one of those in the picture, and...some more of your "spot on" appreciation of the woods. Would that SO MANY URBAN VAGABONDS could know your appreciations.

Mr Ed

I remember the ride as a teenager going to Lake Tenkiller every other weekend. My parents had an old school bus and our boat was in a stall on a lake property of someone else's place. We went to our favorite campsite and set up our things, then the rest of the time was our own. I am glad I've experienced this and have shared it with my children as well.

You have brought to light these special feeling once again in your words of beauty...thanks for sharing!

Blessings

Love it!!!! I couldn't agree more...there's nothing like getting back to nature's richness when your soul needs cleansing...the drawback is we have to come back to the city...My dream is a little cabin on a river or lake...wood stove, wood interior, and all the serenity that comes with it...

Like your poem, I always cherish those times when I could break away into an area that was wild and calming at the same time. So many young people these days, growing up in the city, have no idea what a week in the woods is like, not even if they go to summer camp. What a shame. It makes me wonder if we can save endangered animals when the only way that people see them is on television or at zoos.

As soon as I saw that little cabin on a lake, I thought, that ain't no tent...even I could come out with you and the guys and stay in that thing...does it have indoor plumbing...?LOL, e

Fantastic poetic write that helped me to rejuvenate my soul.

Yes, for a few moments I was back in the woods myself with nature.

Nature, an awesome wonder. I often think that every blade of grass and every ant that crawls is a product of our Creator.

A few moments outdoors each day is so very special. Time well spent as we rejuvenate our souls.

May you have Peace, Love and Abundant Blessings,

John Michael Domino

a beautiful write Ed
I enjoyed nature a few times within my youth
when I went to camp once in the summer and once in the winter
both times were the best times within my memories
Peace be with you......
