Another extremely sad telephone call

About another dog, wandering the street

I eventually spotted him hiding by a church

And soon many other people there I did meet

“This little guy’s been out here about a week now.”

“He is scared to death; from everyone he runs away.”

“A lot of us have been feeding this homeless little waif,

But we would sure love to get him off the streets, today.”

I followed him around the neighborhood for some time

And he always came back to a church called St. Rene’s

So I baited one of my dog traps with delectable goodies

He was soon safely in my truck, and I whisked him away

He trembled in terror when I removed him from my trap

He did not know if I was going to help him or hurt him

I’m guessing that he was abandoned by his own family

To me, Pet Abandonment is truly an abysmal human sin

Today, I will be transporting him to the animal hospital

He is still terrified, and he does not know what lies ahead

I’ve been calling him ‘Renny’ after St. Rene’s where he hid

And hopefully in a day or two, he will lose his fear and dread

We are all now still hoping that this frightened little canine is ‘Lost’

And that this street waif is being missed, by a very concerned family

But in reality, 90 percent of the dogs we rescue, have been abandoned

Which always brings such utter sadness, to every animal rescuer like me
