“Life is partly
What we make it,
And partly made,
By the friends we choose.”
Tennessee Williams
This friend visits me often
He’s a most captivating crow
He woke me at first light today
Soon enticing me out into the cold
I never know where he has been
But I know that crows fly for miles
His early morning caws, intrigue me
His return, still always makes me smile
He remembers that I have peanuts
He caws out, as I toss one in the air
He very skillfully catches the first one
And quickly flies off with it somewhere
Within a few minutes, he always reappears
As he now invites me on a walk in the wood
I know he yearns for some morning company
Since any time spent with a friend is always good
And now, as I begin walking down a forested path
He flutters above me, following along atop the trees
I ask him where he’s been, and what he’s been up to
He seems happy to answer, as he caws back with glee
And soon, as I now perch on a familiar old oak stump
He quickly perches above me, in a familiar old pine tree
This wise old bird knows that I’ve got some more peanuts
So now, he begins cawing and cawing, so very exuberantly
After catching several more offerings, and eating them
My feathered friend and I say our good-byes for the day
He’ll always head off due north, and I’ll always wonder why
But I know we’re both grateful for our early morning chat today
“Life is partly
What we make it,
And partly made,
By the friends we choose.”

The kind of interaction you describe with the crow are for me, true 'connection' and give more happiness than so much in our material world...I wonder where he was going 'due north'...
Stunning photo too....

Ed, you can charm the birds out of the trees!
I had so many crows in the trees in my back yard it was
amazing and one lone Hawk... I wish I would have had my
camera... they all have something to tell us...
A lovely early morning chat Mr. Ed...
