"Shooting a rhino is about as difficult as shooting a tank;
In terms of any sportsmanship component, there is none."

The Humane Society of the United States

Music: Barrel Of A Gun

As some of us still fight to save Earth’s Endangered Species
Far more, are willing to pay someone, to hunt and kill them
I, for one, am now extremely saddened, and totally outraged
That a rich ‘sportsman’ will soon bring a Black Rhino to its end

The Dallas Safari Club has auctioned a ‘Kill’ to the highest bidder
So that some rich S.O.B. can pose for a picture, with a Rhino’s head
Arrogant, self-absorbed, human beings recently vied for this opportunity
The joyous winner will pay $350,000 to shoot an Endangered Rhino dead

Of course, the arrogant Safari Club proclaims this will help conservation
As do our pompous politicians, who have allowed these atrocities to occur
They are gutting The Endangered Species Act, many of us fought so hard for
And already in this country, there are far fewer endangered animals, everywhere

Our ‘leaders’ also very recently sanctioned hired gunmen and ‘sportsmen’ in Idaho
To wipe out two entire Wolf Packs living in a designated federal wilderness forest
A no longer prohibited, frenzied, killing competition, by blood-thirsty human beings
Who want the Bragging Rights, to proclaim that their Wolf Killing Skills, are the best

The Human Race Truly Disgusts Me These Days,
And I Am Now Often Saddened To Be A Member

It's all about growing up, becoming adult, a grown up. But that takes discipline and a modicum of well educated intelligence...little of which, most of our species chooses to address or even acknowledge, remaining adolescently developed as more fun.

As a hunter who ate what he shot, and later shot what he saw with a camera--no longer possible--I see the value in game management. Hunting groups brought back many species like the Native American wild Turkey to areas where they were wiped out by early settlers who indiscriminately killed until there were no more left.

On the other hand, as you have pointed out in this poem, there are still those out there who feel that they can ruin the habitat and kill every last one of a species for personal gain with no regard to the rest of humanity and its needs. If we continue to go down the path of extinction we are on, we will be on the list very soon.

If man can't kill animals for pleasure, he will just wipe out their enviroment with concrete, steel, and asphalt. Either way, it's the intelligent life that loses. A good write.

Keep up the good work.

I respectfully disagree with the notion that all humans are cruel. The American Indian respected the land and all of the wildlife. They even named their children after bears, eagles, bulls, etc.... So humans can live in harmony with the wild. Then white bread English culture sported killing animals for the fun of it (how sick)!!!! To make matters worse the new American culture shot Buffalo in order to wipe out a culture who respected the land and it's treasures. I would LOVE to see the good of the American Indian culture BROUGHT BACK to our stupid insane society. We should live in HARMONY with the wildlife and it should be against the law to kill anything unless you absolutely need to for survival. Thank you once again Ed for another WAKE UP call. You got my vote for our next world leader because true leadership in this world is sorely lacking! John M.D.

I hear you, Ed. loud and clear.
Our beautiful world is lost to gross stupidity and greed. To my mind, such monsters don't deserve to be called 'Human'.
All we can do for the creatures we love, is what little we can, until it's all over.
