He was spotted on the railroad tracks
Wandering aimlessly, several weeks ago
He’s been out on the mean city streets for awhile
Enduring starvation, loneliness, and the bitter cold

People would call to him, and attempt to chase him
But he trusted no one, and in fear, he would rush away
A very kind hearted woman began feeding him in her yard
I saw him standing there yesterday morning, Valentine’s Day

When he saw me get out of my truck, he bolted off down the street
In his absence, I very quickly set up and baited one of my dog traps
His hunger was immense, and very soon, he was safely inside my truck
Now fed and out of the bitter cold he relaxed, and soon settled into a nap

And after his nap, he sat very contentedly by my side in the passenger seat
Now and then giving me a kiss of gratitude for getting him off of the street
On the way to the animal hospital, I decided to name him ‘Little Valentino’
Since it was Valentine’s Day, and this rescued orphan was extremely sweet

Little Valentino is most likely yet another abandoned canine
He is not neutered, he has no microchip, and no collar or I.D. tags
Mankind now seems to disrespect Man’s Best Friend more and more
Which now makes a life-long dog lover like myself, both angry and sad
