The horrors of our animal cruelty
Seem to be getting worse these days
So many pets are now being left behind
So many are forced to find their own way

These two were very cruelly left behind
When their human caretakers moved away
A female canine and a newborn male kitten
Who have become like mother and son today

This female dog never even hesitated
In accepting this tiny kitten, as her own
Canines always practice unconditional love
Unlike us, she refused to leave this kitten alone

She was found nursing her needy adopted child
When pet rescuers entered their abandoned house
Today, their rescuers hope to keep these two together
If only we could learn to love unconditionally somehow



The road traveled by every abandoned pet today is filled with immense cruelty, extreme loneliness, and agonizing fear. As a pet rescuer, I sadly see this every day, and I sadly get calls all the time about pets being left behind in houses when their human caretakers move away.

How each of these abandoned animals adapts to their extremely sad circumstances becomes a major factor in their unique personalities, and often leaves we pet rescuers both saddened by their plight, yet inspired by their unwavering ability to accept love and trust again.

This inspirational story of unconditional love began when neighbors reported hearing what sounded like a dog tending to a newborn puppy in a recently abandoned house. Instead of a new puppy however, this abandoned dog was found nursing a tiny abandoned kitten.

The strength, nourishment, and comfort that these two orphans provided to each other during their terrifying ordeal of being left behind is both miraculous and beautiful.

If only we human beings could learn to be like them.
