The week of March 17th to the 23rd
Celebrates ‘National Wildlife Week’
A time to ponder, all the glories of nature
A time to learn about wildlife, and to teach

I had so many excellent teachers as a young child
I spent most of my free time, in the great outdoors
Today’s children spend most of their time, indoors
We adults, rarely teach them about nature, anymore

Today’s children know little about our wondrous wildlife
They very rarely go camping, hiking, fishing, or exploring
They are no longer taught, about various types of animals
When I was a child, I learned, and I did, all of these things

I was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and an Explorer, all through my youth
Learning about our wild animals, hoping to save them from extinction
But today, so much of our wondrous wildlife, is now being annihilated
And today’s youth care very little about saving the wildlife in our nation

This year’s National Wildlife Week Theme is wisely ‘Wildlife and Water’
Water is a life source for all living beings, who all need clean waterways
Far too much of our nation’s fresh water systems are now being polluted
And we need a new commitment by today’s youth to safeguard them today

Please take some time this week, to teach the children, in your own life
About some types of endangered wildlife, and about ‘The Great Outdoors’
Unless we all now make a concerted effort, to help them to appreciate nature
In a very short time, so many wondrous, god-given creatures, will be no more

And Take Them to a Wilderness Area,
Like The Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore.
