It was just one short week ago
That she was starving and afraid
She cringed, when I tried to pet her
Her change of heart has made my day

She was living on the street a very long time
She had been abandoned, to fend for herself
She had now forgotten, what kindness felt like
She was invisible to most, in her left behind hell

A week ago when she was caught, she trembled
Not knowing that we meant to help, not harm her
But a week of tender loving care and compassion
Has turned her life around and made old feelings stir

When my spouse and I drove her to her new home
She already knew, that her life was about to change
She gently crawled into my wife’s lap and kissed her
As if to thank her, for her second chance at life today

Now, she’s ready to give we human beings another chance
Now, she's willing to try once again, at her new foster home
Now, she is eager to become, the being that she once was
No longer forsaken, starving, homeless, or so horridly alone

And there are sadly so many abandoned pets, just like her
At the over-crowded shelters in your own neck of the woods
Please consider giving one of them, a second chance at life
And showing them that in this world, there is still some good
