It was a lovely March morning, in the marsh
When my canines and I all paused in our tracks
We heard loud, distant, trumpeting, from the skies
Something was coming, and it was coming quite fast

And, we wouldn’t have to wait very long now
A huge flock of birds, was now heading our way
I grabbed my binoculars, and I scanned the heavens
By Nature, we had been wondrously blessed this day

They came, by the dozens now, riding the high thermals
With their distinct v-shape flying pattern, and wondrous calls
The second migrating flock of the magnificent Sandhill Cranes
Both canines and human stood transfixed, marveling at them all

It had only been a few days past, that the first flock had arrived here
But this one was much larger than the other one we’d heard and seen
What a glorious, magical experience, for both my canines and myself
What a heavenly way for Nature to trumpet in the Beginning of Spring

I believe that the Creator always speaks to us,
Through His many glorious animals and birds;
And I, for one, have always been very grateful,
That I learned long ago, to appreciate, His words.

And, these words are truly wondrous, today,
Spring’s Awakening, is definitely underway:

Besides these magnificent returning Cranes
Robins, Killdeer, Meadowlarks, and Loons
Are all, already winging their way northward
The woodlands and lakes, alive with their tunes

Prairie Chickens and Grouse are starting to dance
Wild Turkeys are now gobbling so very joyously
Tiny Owlets are being born, Ospreys are fishing
Spring has once again returned, so magnificently

So Get On Out There Very Soon,
And, Actually Experience Spring;
See and Hear the Glorious Wonders,
Nature’s Yearly Awakening Does Bring.
