“Think occasionally of all the suffering
Of which you spare yourself the sight.”

Albert Schweitzer

Running in total terror, from all of the fireworks
Being ignored by most, as she ran through a park
I soon followed her, this truly horrid Fourth of July
But I eventually lost this frightened dog in the dark

So I eventually wandered back on home, after not finding her
But the image of her running in terror, now kept me up all night
I wondered how far she had run, if she would find her way home
The non-stop July Fourth Fireworks fill so many of them with fright

The next evening as I looked out my front window, I spotted her again
This time, she was racing away from yet more fireworks near my home
So I jumped in my car, and I attempted to follow her, and get her to safety
But she eluded me once more; this poor terrified dog was still on the roam

The next day I received a call that a family had found her, and taken her in
But they did not want to hold on to her, until her own family could be found
So now I drove this orphan of the storm to another person’s house to be fostered
None of us wanted this extremely sweet terrified dog to be taken to the city pound

It has been three weeks now since I first saw this dog running in complete terror
Her picture was posted in the paper, and flyers have been posted everywhere
Yet again, we cannot find another street orphan’s family, or where she came from
No I.D. tags or micro-chip, another lost or abandoned dog, among so many out there

“Think occasionally of all the suffering
Of which you spare yourself the sight.”

One picture is worth 1000 words and 1000 heartbeats. A GREAT poem to boot. I am sure that with this photo someone will adopt this precious pet. If my wife would not throw me out I would have at least four more.

Sweet-looking dog! It looks very affectionate! I hope she'll be found a good home soon.
