August First, Now The Designated Birthday
For all of the rescued dogs, from everywhere
Since we don’t really know the actual birthdays
Of any of the marvelous dogs we rescue out there

I’ve supported this idea from the beginning
Today, I will host a Birthday Party, for Dogs
With lots of Birthday Cake and Canine Treats
My own dogs will be partying high on the hog

In it, you will find my Turbo, Tater, and Jack
Our guests included Misty, Marty, and Smiley
Who I suspect, for this year’s gala, will be back

Dogust First is now also a wonderful opportunity
To visit an animal shelter, or your humane society
So many loving, homeless dogs, now need a friend
This Dogust The First, consider filling one with glee

America’s animal shelters are all now sadly overflowing
With canines who have lost their homes to foreclosure
Every dog deserves a second chance, and a loving home
Please help us to help them, in a celebration of starting over
