First, the honeybees began dying
Then, millions of cave dwelling bats
Soon, beautiful butterflies disappeared
Something is wrong, no doubt about that

On a recent trip to an old northwood marsh
I very sadly no longer heard any frog songs
This vital little wetland, was now devoid of life
I’m not a biologist, but I know something’s wrong

And on my recent outing to a wildwood lake
I did not hear one single vibrant cricket song
And I did not spot even one buzzing dragonfly
I’m not a scientist, but I know something’s wrong

And on our recent June backyard campout
I very sadly noticed, that there were no fireflies
When I was a child, camping in my old backyard
Thousands of them had always filled the night skies

I recently read an extremely disturbing new scientific article
That Earth’s much needed bumblebees are also in decline
All of these life forms hold the key, to all of Earth’s varied life
Yet, millions of human beings still proclaim: ‘Everything is fine.’

They don’t believe in climate change
They say our toxic pesticides are A-OK
They don’t care at all, about our pollution
They laugh at scientific warnings, every day

They still say to hell with exerting any efforts
In attempting to improve Earth’s environment
I say we human beings better wake up very soon
And can anyone tell me where all the fireflies went?
