She is believed to be the last surviving hero
Of the 300 Search and Rescue Dogs on 9/11
She’s being recognized today for her heroism
With a 2014 Canine Hero Award Nomination

Her name is Bretagne, a 15-year old Golden Retriever
Her first deployment, was at the World Trade Center
She worked arduous 12-hour shifts, for two long weeks
And her extreme dedication to her work, never wavered

In the following years, she worked tirelessly, at many other disasters
Including horrendous Hurricane Katrina, on our devastated Gulf Coast
Today, she is an Ambassador for all of our Search and Rescue Heroes
And she visits elementary schools, where she helps children today cope

She will be featured this morning on the Today Show
With the other marvelous 2014 Canine Hero Nominees
As a life-long dog lover, who appreciates all that they do
I applaud all of our canine heroes, especially Bretagne
