“Anticipation, Anticipation
Is making me late;
Is keeping me waiting!”

Carly Simon – ‘Anticipation’

He always makes me laugh so hard
As he stands out there, anticipating
He would stand right there, for hours
With his favorite old ball, just waiting

He waits for me to shout ‘Let’s Play Fetch!’
Then he grabs his ball, and he gallops to me
He then so very excitedly, drops it at my feet
Anticipating my toss, and racing off with glee

And once I give in to his anticipation, this will go on and on
The only thing he wants to do, is to play this game somehow
He will only stop, when he is overcome, with sheer exhaustion
To him, the only thing that matters in life, is right here, right now

Sometimes, I just can’t help myself, as I tease him for awhile
I pretend that I don’t see him standing right there, anticipating
When I do that, he eventually gives me one of his canine scowls
As if he’s thinking ‘I can’t believe he doesn’t see me here waiting!’

But once we finally do begin this favorite game of his
He immediately forgets, that I so cruelly made him wait
And very soon, as he races back and forth in his utter joy
The Here and Now, of our game together, is always great

Two years ago, he anxiously waited on a busy interstate
He was lying there waiting for help, with a broken leg
Now, the only thing that he waits for, is to play ‘Fetch’
A former street orphan, now happy and healthy today

There are so many wonderful dogs waiting in shelters these days,
Waiting and hoping that someone will come and fetch them away.

-Waiting Truly Is The Hardest Part-

My three boys all love to play frisbee - two together and then the youngest on his own (he is inclined to object when it's someone else's turn lol). The two together work as a team. Jake will fetch beautifully ...but Jasper flatly refuses, so Jake follows Jasper around until he drops it and then brings it back for him. What teamwork! :-)

We rescued a big, beautiful black and white hound that some "Christians" where going to put down, just because. It's a good thing my daughter found about before they just arbitrarily murdered her and said, "Like Hell you are!"

If you don't have a kid to play catch with, you can always get a dog… Adopt one. It was really strange, but my little Pomeranian had no interest in balls or even toys of any kind. It may have been because, as a puppy, he was probably never given any playthings, just put out on a concrete slab for the day with nothing but his imagination to play with. However, he was the best roach chaser and eater around, and certainly didn't need me to exercise him as he wore a path around the house chasing birds, lizards and cats. I was glad I didn't have to play fetch with him.
