-The Shelter Shiver Was Yesterday Morning -

It was about 30 degrees and snowing
When we arrived at the frigid lakefront
What a truly lovely morning for a swim
Had I got myself into some misery or fun?

As I stood on that beach in tee shirt and shorts
I soon decided that I was probably quite insane
But I soon dove into that icy lake water, anyway
For a few minutes at least, I didn’t feel any pain

But after I emerged from that water, what a shock
Within minutes, I couldn’t feel my hands or my feet
My spouse wrapped several huge towels around me
And for the warmth of my truck, I made a hasty retreat

This morning, I’m still shivering, remembering this very frigid swim
But it was well worth it, since almost $50,000 has now been raised
So many more abandoned and abused dogs, can now be rescued
Who will soon no longer be hungry, homeless, freezing, or in pain
