Prompted By Yet Another Homeless Street Orphan,
Starving, Alone, Wandering In The Cold All Winter,
Who We Were Finally Able To Rescue From Misery.


"He has always been our friend, our partner, our defender, our dog.
We are his life, his love, his leader. He will be ours, so very faithful and true ,
To the last beat of his heart. We owe it to him, to be worthy of such devotion."


Yet:

We humans dump him at our numerous ‘Kill’ Shelters
Where over 5,000 of his kind, are now killed, every day
We leave him behind to fend for himself, when we move
As he so forlornly stares at us, we so very cruelly drive away

We over-breed him, at our numerous and truly horrendous puppy mills
Then we toss him aside like garbage, when he is unable to breed more
We torture, and abuse, and whip him, into fighting in our dog-fighting rings
We are Earth’s only species that relishes and makes money on such horrors

We chain him up in our backyards, and in junkyards, and force him to live there
While we ignore and barely feed and could care less, if he should freeze to death
We abandon him on our highways, in forests, on railroad tracks, and in our parks
And as long as I have lived on this planet, I haven’t seen an end to our cruelty yet

Not a week goes by, where I do not receive a telephone call, or an e-mail, or a text
About yet one more abandoned, starving, emaciated canine, wandering our streets
And those like myself spend our time trying to rescue yet one more canine outcast
While we mourn the fact our own species does not deserve dog’s life-long loyalty

Dog Would Never Do To Us, What We Do To Him;

If Only Man Was Dog’s Best Friend.
