Rainy Day Walkabout

“The best thing that one can do,
When it’s raining,
Is to let it rain.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I have always loved glorious Spring rains
And, I have never let them get me down
Since I did not feel like working yesterday
I grabbed my binoculars and took a walkaround

The raindrops were not stopping a huge hawk
I soon spotted him soaring high up in the sky
And I zoomed in on an occupied sparrow’s nest
A mother feeding her babies, a delight to my eyes

As I gazed about my now awakening flower and vegetable gardens
I soon spotted a pair of robins diligently plucking the earth with glee
They were pulling up some extremely rotund and juicy night crawlers
This sight brought many visions of past rainy Spring fishing trips to me

As I wandered off in the rain, into a small patch of green woods
I spotted several young deer cavorting and playing in the trees
And as the raindrops now stopped falling, and the sun peeked out
I heard the delightful songs of many forest birds in the Spring breeze

I have always loved glorious Spring rains
And, I have never let them get me down
Since I did not feel like working yesterday
I grabbed my binoculars and took a walkaround

As long as it's a warm rain, I too enjoy walking in the rain. Many times my dog and I would come home soaked.

A walkaround in the rain, the closest thing to a bath you ever get...did you bring soap, as I can send you this bar on a rope you sent to me last Christmas...you know it was hardly used...-e-

Yes, the rain casts a different perspective on the landscape. And all the critters out there deal with it in different ways. I often wonder how butterflies survive pounding downpours and hail. Perhaps they don't. And how birds can fly through pouring rain with so feathers and large raindrops hitting them in the eyes. Remarkable.

Sweet is the first word that comes to mind. What a glorious walk you had! You are so fortunate to live in the area you do, and you shared the experience in a way that gave me the sensation of seeing the sights of Spring with you. Thanks for the walk!
