Poem Artwork
-->“The first fall of snow is not only an event,
It is a magical event;
You go to bed in one kind of world,
And you wake up in another.”

J.B. Priestley

My dogs all woke me up
It was not yet, even dawn
They had felt it in their souls
The First Snow, out on our lawn

They all anxiously pranced about
As I now very quickly got dressed
They could not wait to experience it
They knew that we had been blessed

And soon, both man and canines
Were out gazing about in a field
They began romping and playing
I stood marveling, then I kneeled

I excitedly scooped up a bunch
What magical memories for me
My mind flashed back so quickly
To a very old backyard in the city

It was there, as a very young child
I had discovered, the magic of snow
It was there, on a morning so long ago
That my wandering thoughts now did go

Back, to my cherished childhood home
Back, with my old pals and canine friends
Back, to that very first snowfall of the year
How we all cavorted about in it, without end

That’s when my spouse came outside
As we shared this season’s First Snow
“Isn’t it absolutely gorgeous, Sweetie?”
“It is, but I’m going back in, it’s too cold!”

My dogs and I stayed out for quite awhile
First Snows, to me, are a wondrous thing
I could not live anywhere without snowfall
Such a clean, magical, new world, it brings

“The first fall of snow is not only an event,
It is a magical event;
You go to bed in one kind of world,
And you wake up in another.”

Still no snow in Jersey, though I am not too very upset, I like to keep my car nice and clean, so no snow do I really want to get...actually out here its been quite warm for the month of November, and even on Turkey day it is supposed to be in the mid 60s so I will enjoy both before and after a walk on my beach & a conversation with Mom Ocean...this was a great write Ed & I am always happy to see something new from you, especially about the mutts...I hope you, Rebecca & those many mutts have a wonderful & fulfilling Thanksgiving...-e-
