Save A Life - Adopt A Mutt

December 2nd is 'National Mutt Day'

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Poem Artwork

Pictured Here Are Three of My Adorable Mutts,
Little Jack, Highway, and Shadow

“In every heart there is a hole,
And in every shelter, there is love to fill it.”

Colleen Paige,
Creator of National Mutt Day

Most of my rescued canines
Are marvelous mixed breeds
Dogs do not need AKC papers
To bring love and loyalty to me

Sadly, the majority of canines that are euthanized
In our animal shelters, are unwanted, mixed breeds
Far too many people, still do not spay and neuter pets
Far too many people, still insist on purchasing pedigrees

Yet, mixed breed dogs are usually healthier than the pure breeds
They are generally better behaved, and they will often live longer
They are just as capable as pure breeds, and perform many tasks
Such as guide dogs for the handicapped, and patrolling our borders

Millions of unwanted and unloved mixed breed dogs now wait in shelters
For someone to come adopt them, and make them a part of their family
Please consider fostering or adopting a Mutt, and saving a deserving life
The majority of dogs that I have had the privilege to know, had no pedigree

-Please Consider Giving A Deserving Mutt A Home For The Holidays-

I never seem to have opportunity to rescue or save a mutt, the mutts find their way to my door pretty regularly without my looking

maybe someday I will have chance to actually go to shelter to save a mutt, until then it is feed these beasts who come for dinner and provide much happiness for us here!!

Yes, like Odin, we only knew mutts in our childhood. And, I recall they were all very smart and very hardy when it came to surviving in all kinds of conditions, outdoors. I soon found out that anyone that had a purebred pet, told me that their friend had some genetic disorder, complained of veterinary bills, and personality problems.

All pets acquired for Christmas this year should come from dog shelters and not from pet stores.

My memories of childhood are so filled with remembrances of mutts. My neighborhood was one big kennel it seemed, with almost every home on the street (numbering 26) had one of the mixed breeds. And yes, they were very loving and accommodating animals, often far more petable and willing to play ball with us than the two "papered" Beagles that one family had. They were, how should I say, aloof and noisy. Damn could they bark from their windows as we passed on the sidewalk. And for some extra howls, the sustained kind, we would antagonize them with a playing card clothesline-clipped to the front wheel of our bikes. Oh, my... talk about a nightmare alley effect. There was one mutt that used to shadow me and my friend with every move on the block. When the Beagles started up, Jose, that was the mutt's name, would stop, sit on its haunches, tilt its head from side to side, the quizzical expression priceless, and utter a quiet pathetic "I feel sorry for you guys" whimper.
