Eyes To See

You come by neither to say hello,

Nor call upon me unless you have a need.

It seems to me that it has been for ages,

Since your sweet face, I have last seen.

You say that time is short and that you are so…so busy

You say that in the day there are never enough hours.

And you tell me that you dash around this world in a mad tizzy,

But what happened, to when you used to bring me flowers.

However though, and to you, this I must now say

Consider me  again while the light is still in my eyes,

Moreover, not after my days are finished and I am gone away.

For then there shall not be a need, for then it will be too late.

Too late for anymore, warm embraces,

and past our time for balanced goodbyes.

So, I ask of you now, when this journey I begin

Not…to bring unto me your precious flowers.

For if, it is so, and my eyes have long waxed cold

I will not see them from your hand to bring.

I will not smell of their sweet and pleasant nectar

Nor visualize the glory of their essence

as in the colors of harmony they sing.

For I shall not be able to catch a glint of the faded of light

on the gentle bloom of this serendipitous night.

So, bother not then to give them unto me

as I lay forgotten unto the cold ground beneath.

Bring them now, along with your warm smile

And show to me that I have made your life worthwhile.

Grant this to me…while I still have eyes to see.

i find this poem very wise and inspired ... you bring into focus what many of us refuse to see ...

I found this very moving and wise, profound even. Such a simple lesson and we all go and screw things up placing the blame on our busy lives. I want to be that little girl who picks flowers for everyone, even for those who think they are too busy to receive. And then I want to throw what flowers are left to the wind and see what God creates. You've inspired me thoroughly with this, Allen.

Showing as you always do your wisdom and compassionate nature herein, Al, you make me think of the anxiety I feel when I have not seen someone for a very long time, it gets harder by the day for me to visit anyone I have neglected...guess this weekend I will be doing some catching up with friends I have not seen of late...thanks, Ed & Rufuz

This is so to the point and all children should recieve a copy of this, having my mother in law who is 86 live with us and seeing how rare it is for anyone to visit her I know this poem so well. I am going to defiantly print this one, Thank you Allen.

We never truly realize that tomorrow may not be in our book
Superb poem!
