Our Little Church

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Our church is indeed small by comparison to most, and when I can get the whole family together to attend at the same time we make up about 1/5 the congregation. The above photo is of our little church “Bible Deliverance” Anyone is welcome here…no matter if you walk in wearing street clothes…you are welcome.

Poem Artwork

Our Little Church

Though this church by its size be small.

The love of Almighty God is shown by all.

On a hilltop nestled in between two pecan trees

This little white church has come to mean so much to me.

When I was unlovable; despised and mean as a snake,

They with open arms welcomed me and did not forsake.

So this day, oh this sweet and precious Mother’s Day,

We as a family gathered as one in our little church to pray.

The singing was absolutely wonderful and the sermon was great.

By the time the service was over, I felt ever closer to heavens gate.

So of this day in which we came; a day the Lord has made

I give thanks to my God for all of this, for in His love to me He gave.

Your life is rich in blessings, Allen. I agree with Eileen. The closeknit nature of small churches cannot be matched by larger congregations. Our little church, in the village where I was raised, had 42 full time members and our church community was one big family. Now, I live in a community of 50,000 residents and there are several services, each Sunday morning, just to accomodate the crowd. The closeness is lost and just like our neighborhood, no one knows hardly anyone.

Precious poem and continue to enjoy your blessings.

Thank you for sharing Allen! Love both pic and poem! There is something about a small church that the big ones can never
capture. Sad fact, but I always prefer the small ones with
less of the worlds ways, and more of the Lords in them.

Love,
Eileen

J. Allen, this was an inspiring read this morning...it brought back many memories of yesteryear...I enjoyed every line and when we put God in our week...it gives us a high.

I grew up attending a church like the one you write about. Now they're all gone here in California. I love your poem and I miss my little church.

Wonderful sharing of the soul. This sort of reminds me of the song, "Crying in the Chapel." The tears shed there are tears of Joy. Stay close to God and he will never let you feel alone. Sounds like a wonderful church. Hope it never gets too big. Somethings get lost in large numbers.
God Bless,
Lew

It may be small, but as long as it teaches God's word, who cares how big it is?? I go to an Assembly of God church, and it's growing, but I enjoy it, especially since right now it is directly behind where I live! :) (Fixin' to move to a new building in a few months; then I'll have to get a ride; any way, I'll get there somehow! I love it! :) )

Wonderful write, J. Allen; very well done! Love the photo!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D
