Purple Sadness And Whitetails

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Today I was especially down but in the end I was inspired to pen the poem below….”Purple Sadness And Whitetails” I guess its this burden of too much worry and frail human frustration over things that I can’t change and over things that really shouldn’t matter. However today when I was at work as usual drudging through the things that make work its namesake I remembered that I needed to call and check on Leah like I always do. Therefore since the weather down south is really starting to come into that delightful stage I thought I would step out behind the plant to make my call and get some fresh air. The air was clean and fresh even though the High today was still around 90 degrees; the evenings are cooling down to a wonderful 65 degrees.

I walked slowly to the back dock which looks out across a 10 or 12 acre field which is surrounded by woods. I thought to myself about all the sunsets I have seen over this field for the last 20 years and how they always seem to lift my spirit. Today however the sun set as I was walking to the back of the dock and all I could feel was a purple sadness…I closed my eyes briefly, took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

I then called Leah and began telling her of my day and how I was feeling. She being the faithful optimist that she always is tried to encourage me, and even though what she was saying is right and true I thought more than once that sometimes that it all just aint worth the pain and then out of nowhere it happened…out from the edge of the woods and across the field no more than 100 feet from me ran 5 whitetail doe dear and trailing them were 6 summer fawns. The sight was breathtaking and their beauty unsurpassed.

They ran and leaped in unison and it was if I were watching some sort of ballet. They then stopped and 11 small faces looked at me. They were twitching their whitetails up in the air like little flags and just as quick as the appeared, they were gone. I tried to get a picture with my small digital before they took flight but they really were too far away for my lens. I told Leah what I was seeing and her reply was simple… “Aint God good Allen… He saw that you were down and needed a lift and he gave you just what you needed do you see it Allen? You know that He Loves you and so do I”….Yep, she’s right He is good and it was just what I needed.

Purple Sadness And Whitetails

Skies maroon blend upon a leafy green.

Hearts are worn amid heavy sighs; joy unseen.

Days end and troubles brood on seemingly evermore.

Yet this desperation begets inspiration amongst the purple sadness beneath heavens door.

For life pure and clean; innocent in both heart and mind.

This day as ode to joy came now to lift this bereft soul of mine.

Whitetails were dancing light with glee on fields of green.

This time, not chance; was my gift from God who gave unto me this to see.

So dance on little whitetails, dance on forever beneath the purple skies majesty…

dance on

Most of us are touched by nature but when SHE decides to touch you...then you become the chosen. Thank her and God for stopping by to create harmony for you when you needed it. Life is grand...always.

God is wonderful. His timing is always "right-on," reminding us of His love for us.

Your friend, Leah, is another example of God's love.

Very good, indeed, and His Gifts of Nature often bail me out when I'm down, too. And those whitetails are always a marvelous sight!

A beautiful picture indeed! So many at one time is just amazing. Used to see deer all the time, but not where I am at now. This piece is as if God were guiding your thoughts and hands. Expressed so well, so pure, so honestly....

Be safe,
Karen
