Singular Loyalty

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

There was a time when loyalty meant exactly that…. (Devotion) It was a time when an employee gave 100 percent to his employer and the employer reciprocated in kind. However in today’s turbulent time when the profit margins seem to be the only measure of worth, one is left wondering what happened to the marriage of employee and employer. Many oh so many are left scratching their heads and wondering why they did not see the measure of unfaithfulness coming. I understand that there are times when what must be done…must be done, I really do. However after twenty devoted years I can’t help but feel a bit in the lurch. I found out today that the company that I work at will be eliminating the entire shift that I work on.

I really can’t complain too much since I have “based on my knowledge and experience” been offered a lesser job on the graveyard shift. Honestly, I am truly thankful to still retain employment though it is not where I imagined myself when I filled out the questionnaire twenty years ago….”where do you want to be in five…ten years?”

I find that I have only worked my way up only to find myself back down at the bottom again, albeit temporally I hope and pray. Nevertheless it’s disheartening and it truly grieves my soul. Yet back to the bright side once more….I still have a job and a whole lot of people I know and have known for years don’t. God, I don’t know where this is going, so help me remain positive even in the shadows of uncertainty. Lord, I am too old to be starting over again….so please grant me the grace to carry on. I don’t even know if I will be able to make it this way…so please….I don’t understand.

Singular Loyalty

Time is lain out before us and the cards are already often dealt.
I understand the reasons; I understand why you say it must be.
But have you ever wondered I mean really ever wondered,
how something this shocking has ever to a poor soul felt?

I know the powers that be rule with a mighty hand.
Recession has coming quickly to darken this great land.
Greed and corruption is found often to be in high place.
Solutions secure can only be found in the divinity of grace.

So God deliver us now in this our time of need.
Grant mercy to those who have lost most.
And show me by grace the things I truly need to see.

Bless all the workers that have lost their jobs.
And keep us the ones that remain humble in it all.
Dear Lord…I know not what I should do… I only wish that I could help us all.

I accept this prayer as one I will say for my nighttime visit with God. It is one that encompasses what sums up man's selfishness towards this earth and one another. I want harmony more than anything for this world. Perhaps your prayer will help.

Blessings and love to you and Leah.

Circumstances can change like the daily tide. Keeping faith in God is the one true constant and will see us all through. Pain and uncertainty prevails no matter what we do, one day up, the next down, only to find ourselves in our darkest hour rising again. My life has been a roller coaster ride and yet, I would not change a thing, for there have been lessons learned at every turn. Trust in God and be grateful each and every day....

Be always safe,
Karen

Sometimes there is nothing we can do but pass out the loose change in our pockets and pray that the world will someday wake up and realize we are all family.

Excellent write, Allen, be thankful you have a job. Being over 40, having no transportation, disabled severely limits your options - living on my VA disability, which is less than $240.00/month - not complaining, able to pay my bills (thank you, Lord), but after that - what money for food? Just keep me in your prayers, as I will, you - know what you mean about loyalty and dedication not meaning a flip anymore. :( Sad, isn't it?

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

"Grant mercy to those who have lost most.
And show me by grace the things I truly need to see." These words sum up everything...the true importance in life. Excellent work.

...honest thoughts...penned as if in prayer...becomes one of devotion...to a jobs promise of years...perhaps now divorced. ...in your words...I understand...in God's hands...words of hope are wished.
very well written...
