Sweet Is Thy Spirit

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

I’ve journeyed far on a road that has contained many snares set for my soul. I have not always taken the right or easy path and have many times fallen by the wayside. I’ve looked darkness in the eye and I’ve smelled death at my feet far too many times. The battle is always present, and many times I am so weak. Yet He will keep me if I keep my eyes on Him.

Sweet Is Thy Spirit

Sweet is thy spirit which quickens this my weary soul.

Though the darkness has laid waste; with thee I shall abide whole.

For in this comfort I shall rise above the wastelands; of these most troubled times.

I shall set forth and rise; I shall scourge the shadows which steal the mind.

So hearken now oh lord unto the softness of my whispering lament.

Divide asunder and confuse those which come to steal peace away.

Give now unto me thy grace and stand with me always I silently pray.

Walk with me; hold me in the power of your right hand.

For I am unable to even walk without you; and it is by thee I stand.

So sweet is thy spirit as I close these tired and worn eyes.

So sweet is it in deliverance, oh precious lord of mine.

Lift your spirit high, as we are only human and are subject to fall from time to time. What is important is to always remain pure of heart and keep your sights on God.....

Be always safe,
Karen

Allen,
This poem touches the heart. When we trust in Him, we are able to accomplish so many great things and reach many heights that once seemed so unattainable.
Beautiful writing, my friend.

Jill
